                       The Institute for Christian Leadership
                           Announces the 1993/94 Cycle of
                    Writing Awards for Christian College Faculty
            
            Two endowed writing awards have been established by 
            supporters of the Institute for Christian Leadership.  Each 
            provides an annual cash prize of $1,000 to further the 
            research and writing efforts of faculty persons in Christian 
            higher education.
            
            Awards are granted for journal-length (20-25 double-spaced 
            typed pages) articles on the following themes:
            
                                         I.
                             The Ted Ward Writing Award
                    "The Christian Mission in Higher Education"
                                          
                                        II.
                          The Howard Vollum Writing Award
                   "Horizons of Science and the Christian Faith"
            
            Previous winning articles (1992/93) can be reviewed in Issue 
            #18 of Faculty Dialogue.
            
            Conditions:
            
            1.   All articles entered must be previously unpublished.
            2.   All articles submitted are to be made available for 
            	 consideration for publication
                 in Faculty Dialogue.
            3.   All articles are available for publication elsewhere 
            	 except that first publication of
                 any accepted articles must be in Faculty Dialogue.
            4.   The closing date for all entries for these awards will 
            	 be February 14, 1994.
            5.   Awards will be presented simultaneously with 
             	 publication of the article.
            
            Donors
            
            The Ted Ward Writing Award, established in 1991 and funded 
            by Mrs. Evelyn Egtvedt, was named in honor of Faculty 
            Dialogue's co-editor, Dr. Ted Ward, who serves currently as 
            G.W. Aldeen Professor of International Studies and Mission 
            at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and is Professor 
            Emeritus in Higher Education at Michigan State University.
            
            The Howard Vollum Writing Award, established in 1993 and 
            funded by Mr. James B. Castles, was named in honor of Mr. 
            Howard Vollum.  In 1937, Mr. Vollum began an association 
            with Jack Murdock that culminated in the founding of 
            Tektronix, Inc., a pioneer manufacturer of test and 
            measurement and computer graphics equipment that grew to 
            become one of the largest employers in the State of Oregon.
