S U N D A Y S N I P P E T S (tm) # 5 3 1 Jan. 1996 A Song for the New Year, 1996 ----------------------------- I thought this Psalm appropriate for the first day of the New Year. The second line corresponds to our Western tradition of making New Year's resolutions, a practice done by godly men such as Jonathan Edwards. "Thou crownest the year with thy Goodness" is the acknowledgement that all blessings that we will receive in 1996 will sent from Heaven, not "accidents" as the world supposes. May we all receive abundance of blessings, spiritual moreso than material, in 1996. Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Zion; And unto thee shall the vow be performed. O thou that hearest prayer, Unto thee shall all flesh come. Iniquities prevail against me: As for our transgressions, thou wilt forgive them. Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, That he may dwell in thy courts: We shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, Thy holy temple. ... Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it, Thou greatly enrichest it; The river of God is full of water: Thou providest them grain, When thou hast so prepared the earth. ... * Thou crownest the year with thy goodness; * And thy paths drop fatness. They drop upon the pastures of the wilderness; And the hills are girded with joy. The pastures are clothed with flocks; The valleys also are covered over with grain; They shout for joy, they also sing. - exerpts from Psalm 65 (ASV 1901) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Sunday Snippets" is the trademark of G.
